So I had to manually turn off the machine. The only thing popping up with OS in it, is Mac OS X Base System which is underneath Disk0, but I do not have the option to repair or verify this either. Same setup, bought brand new in June 2012. I have a 2012-2013 SDD in my Mac. From the memory slots, remove any non-Apple or the third party RAM from your MAC. I did a hard restart and got the blinking question mark folder. I attempted to Verify and Repair the disk, both operations completed successfully, still wont recognize the disk.
It worked for me and a friend. Your Mac can't find the Hard Disk.
It worked, and I have had no issues since.
file folder on startup, and the computer - seemingly to save its life - cant find the OS disk. https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT204063 (How the ALT+CMD+P+R works). In response to Torque1. What OSX version? I assumed incorrectly the OS would boot from my Pen Drive - it does not.
then it probably means that your Mac is unable to find the start-up disk therefore unable to boot your Mac OS. I turned the computer off, and slapped the bottom of it a few times, (NO JOKE), and turned it on again. otherwise, reseat the harddrive.
