I was driving home from work and heading to Interstate 85 and I seen a large cat with a very long tail jump across the highway. One other time one crossed road in front of me at Black river in Sampson county from nose to tall yellow line to white line [real big]. Surprisingly, we were able to sit in the car and watch the cat for a good 10 minutes or so. I looked upand in front of me was a cougar stretched full over the road.

There was a reported sighting of a black panther comming from my property crossing over to another property populated with Horses. . A big cat came out of the pasture about 100 yards down the road. This was in washington county, virginia. Problems always arise when potentially dangerous wild animals are forced into populated areas as they lose their natural habitat.

I know it was a black panther. Although cougars are sometimes called panthers, "black panther" is not a name that can be attributed to this species. Donna Campbell Smith (author) from Central North Carolina on March 21, 2020: My husband and I live in rural Ayden, NC (near Greene County border) and while my husband was mowing our backyard this morning he saw a black animal, larger than a dog, emerge from the woods and walk a tree line approximately 300ft away from where he had stopped. The last documented sighting of a Carolina Panther was one that was killed in Maine in 1938. Then I was thinking very large cat.
I was about 8 or 9 years old and going along the interstate(26 or 40 I can't remember) and as much as they like to be hidden away from people,I will swear up and down until the day I die that I saw one standing on the edge of a cliff overlooking the interstate. The problem is they keep developing and we need to let the land be for the animals to survive.
