I hope that if there are any plans to continue with the series, they'll film in a different location with better casting and try to portray Three Pines as the magical French Canadian village that Ms. Penny created. The fictional location here is Hadley Mill, Three Pines Quebec. Adaptations are tough, yes, but the name says it all - take the essence and create your own dialogue! If this is a series, I hope other episodes are or will be better than this one... Am a very big fan of Louise Penny, and enjoyed the film when seen on TV. It's a lovely film, full of Quebec, Quebecers and the Eastern townships.I just cannot fit Inspector Linley into the picture.
What works in a book sounds clunky and is difficult to deliver in a movie, no matter how good the actors may be.

When a beloved schoolteacher is found dead, the possibility of murder leaves the quaint town of Three Pines aghast in this crime drama based on the award-winning novel by Louise Penny. It needs to be longer perhaps a 3 part story instead of one hour. I love the Gamache books and was so excited for the movie. Good luck and if you need any extra hands on cameras, etc., give your US 'cousins' a call! I loved seeing the characters and the village of Three Pines come to life but the movie did seem made for a TV audience - too many panoramic views of fall trees and colours. Don't even get me started on Myrna (who is not only about 100kg off, but never has a chance to say a line and is not even referred to by name).Yet, I feel that (mis)casting is not the complete issue here. Someone needs to tell the screenwriter that book adaptations to screen are not required to use the book dialogue word for word.
